There have also been issues with the front strut mounts, which may cause a clunk, but under different steering conditions, but it seems to occur less than the worn bushing problem. An alignment is required whenever you remove, replace, or adjust any part of the steering and suspension system. and that certainly includes the rack. You might get the rack for less. That's what my mechanic charged me.

At first the joint at the bottom of the steering column was greased - that worked for a couple of months but the clunk came back. Then the bottom universal joint at the bottom of the steering column was replaced and problem solved. All under warranty.
